Pokémon GO Reality Blending AR

Taking Pokemon GO AR to a Whole New Level

I know I’ve always wanted to have real Pokemon, and Pokemon GO is about the closest I’ll get to my childhood dream. Niantic just made my dream better with Reality Blending.

I have taken family photos with my Groudon, and tons of pictures outside with my family running around pretending to interact with the Pokemon in real life.

Cool New AR

Well, Niantic is pushing out a more realistic version of the AR, and if you have a new enough phone (I don’t, sadly) you may be selected as one of the lucky few to help test it out.

I know the second I read the press release about the new feature, my heart started beating faster, knowing I could take adorable photos of my Eevee peaking out from behind my couch, or a party hat Pikachu hiding behind my boyfriend’s legs.

I know I can’t wait to play with the feature.

Now…. just need to get a new phone….

Android is how Niantic is rolling the new AR feature out.

Phones the game feature will be tested on

  • Samsung Galaxy S9
  • Samsung Galaxy S10
  • Google Pixel 3
  • Google Pixel 4

In case you were wondering, I currently have a Google Pixel 2. Google Pixel 4 is on my Christmas wish list.

New Feature is Reality Blending

Niantic is calling this cool new AR feature, Reality Blending. With Reality Blending, you will be able to have your Pokemon partially behind or all the way behind objects in the real world, allowing for a more realistic interaction and picture taking. I’m pretty excited and can’t wait to see people’s adorable pictures on Twitter and Facebook!

Niantic hasn’t announced an official testing roll-out date, but Niantic did state that they will be randomly selecting players to upgrade to it on the 4 devices listed above. After a while, Niantic says they will roll it out to even more trainers, so the update will be a sort of tiered roll-out.

Servers Down June 1

Since Niantic announced that they will be shutting down their Pokemon GO servers for the entire day of June 1, 2020, I am going to safely assume that this awesome new update has something to do with that.

Anyways, if you get the new update, I’d love to hear what you think of it in the comments… maybe make me even more jealous since I can’t play it on my Google Pixel 2 :{
