Hi everyone! This weekend is Global Game Jam! So exciting, I know. This year, we will be participating in the Cleveland Game Developer’s hosting of it at:
Tickets are now $26 and you can purchase them here. You have until the Jam starts on Friday, January 29th at 7pm – ish.
What is a Game Jam?
A game jam is an event where you gather into teams of approximately 1-5 people and create a game proto engine in a set amount of time. Some game jams are held online and you can participate from your home while others are held in offices or someplace where everyone “camps out” to participate.
Usually, the theme for a jam is not announced until the start of the game jam. This allows for everyone to have the same amount of time to process the theme and come up with a game idea.
At the end of the game jam, everyone presents their games and has fun playing each other’s games. Some game jams offer prizes, while others do not. All of them offer fun times, knowledge, and new game developer friends.
I’m New to Game Development. Should I Participate?
Game jams are perfect for everyone to participate. The jams are full of hobby game developers, inexperienced game developers, students, and everyone in between. New or not, you should definitely participate in game jams.
You will learn about new game development tools, make some new friends and networking buddies, and have a game proto engine to add to your resume. Not to mention the food and fun you’ll have! So participate and have fun!
Anyways, if you’re going to Global Game Jam 2016 in Cleveland, OH, we will see you there! If not, we will try and record as much as we can so you can see how much fun the Global Game Jam is!
