Business and Marketing for Your Game or App

business and marketing

This meeting is being held on the second Sunday, due to Labor Day weekend. This meeting will also be held at the Poland Library, instead of the Boardman Library. The Boardman Library is having renovations and the meeting room is not available in September.

We will be talking about the business side of game development. Why it’s important to get a business license, the importance of marketing, when to start marketing, and what are some ways to show the world you exist.

We will also be discussing the November road trip to Columbus for the Ohio Game Dev Expo (OGDE). We will need to know by Friday, September 4th if you are going. The sign up sheet is available here. Tickets are on sale now at https://www.ohiogamedevexpo.com/. You can also sign up as a volunteer or if you want to show off your game you can sign up for a booth as an indie developer. We will be leaving Thursday night and car pooling. We are gathering the funds for the hotel stay and reserving our hotel room right after this meetup. We need to do this now, so that we can make sure we can get a room, as well as get it as cheap as possible. Right now (8/2/2015), hotels are about $200 per night and we can get 4 people to a room. We will be there 3 nights and hopefully we can get joining rooms, or rooms near each other if we need more than one room.

We will be gathering your name ideas for the conference. If you have a suggestion, you can make it here. We will have a polling on here, and choose a name by the end of the meetup. We will also discuss some studios/developers/technology groups to reach out to for donations/panel reservations/developer booths etc. for the conference. Hopefully RJ will be available and we can discuss these with him.

Another thing on our agenda is our game jam details. We can talk about what a game jam is, and start prepping to find a place to hose one, and have some fun making a game concept!

Pre-Meetup Letter from the Organizer

Hi everyone!

I just want to update you all with the place for our next meetup. The next Meetup is being held at the Poland Library since the Boardman Library is under renovations during the month of September.

The Poland library is closer to the 680 exit, and has a beautiful campus. I had never been to that library until today, when I went to schedule our meeting.

I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday, September 13!

Also, don’t forget to get your OGDE ticket and sign up for our road trip. You can get your tickets here, and then sign up for the road trip here. You have until Friday, September 4 to sign up for the road trip.
